Heidi Cannon – Gym Crush – Interview & Photos

How and when did you get started in training and living a fit lifestyle?
I have always been active my entire life. I was a total tomboy growing up and still kinda am today. I rode dirt bikes were very involved in martial arts and I even started going to the gym at 16 with my guy friends even though I had no clue what I was doing. I had always been active but never knew how to eat properly. This came when I got into competing and learning what foods were really important and what fueled my body properly. So much of the healthy lifestyle is what we eat! This has truly changed my life.


What got you started in the fitness industry?
I wanted to look my very best for my wedding day so I hired my friend who is a trainer, he asked me why don’t I try a fitness competition too so I signed up and never looked back. I was addicted from the day I bought my first sparkly bikini and stepped on stage. Everything just kinda snowballed after that and it been an amazing journey so far.


Along with your fitness journey, have you ever felt like quitting… and if so what/who motivated you to keep going?
Quitting, no. Staying motivated and not getting into a funk, YES! What keeps me going is the way I always feel when I’m done my workout session. 9 times out of 10 I love my workouts and feel stronger and more confident with each week that goes by especially when I keep on my program. When I do feel lazy or in a funk it usually doesn’t last long I have so many great friends that help me keep on track and inspire me every day. Holly and Kyla are my biggest motivators.

What types of cardio have worked best for you?
I love the Stairmaster and to cycle. I love them both for building the booty and keeping my quads. One thing I love is muscular legs especially on a woman, strong and feminine.


What supplements do you use… and what are some of your favorites you would recommend?
I feel extremely lucky to be sponsored by Magnum Nutraceuticals. They have been my go-to supplement for so many years even prior my sponsorship. I love my Quattro protein I cannot live without it as my baking app Mrs. Cannon’s Baking is based on baking with this protein powder. I live on Opus and High 5 for my pre and post workout and never miss a day of taking my Magnum primer packs. These 4 keep my hydrated, plenty of energy and keep me on a well-balanced diet. When you look back what do you think has been the key to achieving your goals?
Try and try again. Nothing comes overnight. The key to success is determination. I’m one determined chick if I put my mind to something.

What’s one tip you would give to a person just starting their fitness journey?
Don’t give up and don’t compare. I think too many people are easily distracted by comparing themselves to others when in reality you should just focus on yourself don’t worry about others, there on their own journey, it’s not yours.

What’s one of your favorite quotes?
My dad’s quote – Go big or go home!
